Etymology
Inherited from Proto-Turkic *bora- (“north wind; to snow heavily”), whence بوران (boran). Cognate with Bashkir буран (buran), Crimean Tatar boran, Kazakh боран (boran) and Turkmen boran. Alternatively, it could be a wanderwort related to Italian bora and Greek μπόρα (bóra).
