From Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (dlcyk' /darzīg/, tailor). Ultimately from Proto-Iranian *darz- (to attach, fasten; to load; to sew). Cognate with Talysh دشتن (dešten, to sew) (present stem: درز (derz)) (in Shaft).

Also from Iranian: Old Armenian դերձակ (derjak), post-classical դերձիկ (derjik), դերզիկ (derzik), Classical Syriac ܕܪܙܝܩܐ (darzīqā).
