شاه مات
Persian

Etymology
Literally, “the king is amazed”, from شاه (šâh, “king”) + مات (mât, “amazed”). According to Barnhardt, the second element was confused with مَاتَ (māta, “to die”) and borrowed into Romance languages with the sense "the king died."[1]
