‎ (šir, “milk”) + an uncertain second part; cognate to Central Kurdish شیرێژ‎ (şîrêj), سیرێژ‎ (sîrêj) and Gurani سیراج‎ (sîrac). Compare Persian ‎ (širzâ), ‎ (širzâd, “a fattening drug which gives an increase of milk”), in Classical Syriac recorded in the form ܫܝܪܙܝܕ‎ (šyrzyd) by Bar Bahlul.
