From Proto-Turkic *taŋ (dawn; morning); cognate with Azerbaijani dan, Kazakh таң (tañ), Kyrgyz тан (tan), Tatar таң (tañ), Turkmen daň, Tuvan даң (dañ), Uyghur تاڭ (tang), Uzbek tong and Yakut тыҥ (tıñ).
