يَنْبُوع • (yanbūʿ) m (plural يَنَابِيع‎ (yanābīʿ))

1. spring, creek, fountain

   • 609–632 CE, Qur'an, 17:90:

     ‏وَقَالُوا لَن نُّؤْمِنَ لَكَ حَتَّى تَفْجُرَ لَنَا مِنَ الأَرْضِ يَنْبُوعًا‎‎

     wa-qālū lan nnuʾmina laka ḥattā tafjura lanā mina l-ʾarḍi yanbūʿan

     And they say, "We will not believe you until you break open for us from the ground a spring."

   • 609–632 CE, Qur'an, 39:21:

     ‏أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّ اللّٰهَ أَنْزَلَ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مَاءً فَسَلَكَهُ يَنَابِيعَ فِي الأَرْضِ ثُمَّ يُخْرِجُ بِهِ زَرْعًا مُّخْتَلِفًا أَلْوَانُهُ ثُمَّ يَهِيجُ فَتَرَاهُ مُصْفَرًّا ثُمَّ يَجْعَلُهُ حُطَامًا إِنَّ فِي ذٰلِكَ لَذِكْرَى لِأُولِي الأَلْبَابِ‎

     ʾalam tara ʾanna llāha ʾanzala mina s-samāʾi māʾan fa-salakahu yanābīʿa fī l-ʾarḍi ṯumma yuḵriju bihi zarʿan mmuḵtalifan ʾalwānuhu ṯumma yahīju fa-tarāhu muṣfarran ṯumma yajʿaluhu ḥuṭāman ʾinna fī ḏālika la-ḏikrā li-ʾūlī l-ʾalbābi

     Do you not see that Allah sends down rain from the sky and makes it flow as springs in the earth; then He produces thereby crops of varying colors; then they dry and you see them turned yellow; then He makes them debris. Indeed in that is a reminder for those of understanding.
