Etymology 1

Of Turkic origin. Compare Azerbaijani çim (“turf, sod”), Kazakh шым (şım, “turf, sod”), Kyrgyz чым (çım), Chagatai چيم‎ (čim, “turf, sod”). Armenian ճիմ (čim) and Udi ճում (čum) are Turkic borrowings.
