Etymology
From Sogdian [script needed] (kwrδʾk), ܟܪܝܬܝ (/kurθē/). Cognate with Khotanese 𐨐𐨂𐨪𐨟𐨂, 𑀓𑀼𑀭𑀢𑀼 (kuratu), Ossetian курӕт (kuræt). Compare also Classical Persian کرتک (kurtak), Northern Kurdish kurtek, kurtik, and the Iranian borrowings: Arabic قُرطَق (qurṭaq), Armenian կոռտիկ (koṙtik), քուրտիկ (kʿurtik), Georgian კურტაკი (ḳurṭaḳi), ქურთუკი (kurtuḳi).
