Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘎𑘰𑘢𑘚 (kāpaḍa), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀓𑀧𑁆𑀧𑀟 (kappaḍa), from Sanskrit कर्पट (karpaṭa), ultimately from Munda. Related to कपडा (kapḍā, an article of clothing). Cognate with Hindi कपड़ा (kapṛā).
