Etymology
From Proto-Indo-Aryan *ȷ́ámati (contaminated by अगन् (ágan), etc.), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ǰámati, from Proto-Indo-European *gʷém-e-ti, from *gʷem- (“to come”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬘𐬀𐬨𐬀𐬌𐬙𐬌 (jamaiti), Old English coman, cuman (whence English come).
