Inherited from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀚𑀁𑀩𑀽 (jaṃbū), from Sanskrit जम्बु (jambu). Compare जांभूळ (j̈āmbhūḷ) from जम्बुल (jambula). Cognate with Gujarati જાંબુ (jā̃bu), Dhivehi ޖަންބު (jan̊bu).
