टीका
Hindi
Pronunciation
- (Delhi Hindi) IPA(key): /ʈiː.kɑː/, [ʈiː.käː]
Etymology 1
From Bengali টিকা (ṭika), from Sanskrit तिलक (tilaka). In medieval Bengal, among many techniques, variolaters would make an incision upon the forehead, in which smallpox powder was rubbed in. Such marks were known as টিকা (ṭika) on account of the resemblance. Compare also the borrowed टीकादार (ṭīkādār).
