From Proto-Indo-Aryan *dʰráȷ́ati, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *dʰráȷ́ati, from Proto-Indo-European *dʰréǵ-e-ti, from *dʰreǵ- (“to glide, swoop”). Cognate with Old Norse drāk, Lithuanian drežóti.
