Borrowed from Classical Persian نقلی (naqli, imitation, counterfeit) (modern Persian "traditional, historical"). Surface analysis is नक़ल (naqal, imitation) + -ई (), with the former part borrowed from Persian نقل (naql), from Arabic نَقْل (naql).
