Etymology

Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀫𑀺𑀝𑁆𑀞 (miṭṭha), from Sanskrit मिष्ट (miṣṭa), a later form of मृष्ट (mṛṣṭa, polished), from the root मृज् (mṛj, to polish, purify). Cognate with Bengali মিঠা (miṭha).

Doublet of मिष्ट (miṣṭ), a tatsama.
