From Proto-Indo-European *seykʷ- (to spill, pour; moisten, filter). Cognate with Ancient Greek ἰκμᾰ́ς (ikmás, moisture, wetness), Proto-Slavic *sьcati (to piss); Proto-Germanic *saiwiz whence English sea.
