Inherited from Sanskrit *डुम्बर (ḍumbara), of non-Aryan substrate (possibly Munda) origin. Cognate with Sylheti ꠒꠦꠃꠋꠞꠣ (ḍeuṅra), Chittagonian ডইঁর (ḍoĩr), Assamese ডিমৰু (dimoru), Oriya ଡିମିରି (ḍimiri), ଡିମ୍ବିରି (ḍimbiri).
