From Pali nibandha (“binding; bond; attachment; continuance”) or Sanskrit निबन्ध (nibandha, “binding, tying, fastening; attachment; composing, writing down; literary composition or work; etc.”). Cognate with Khmer និពន្ធ (nipŭən), Lao ນິພັນ (ni phan), ນິພົນ (ni phon).
