The (れん)(よう)(けい) (ren'yōkei, stem or continuative form) of the verb () (suku, to like, to be fond of, to enjoy, to feel love for).[1][2]

First cited to the late 900s in the 宇津保物語 (Utsubo Monogatari).[1]
