Etymology

From 開け (hirake, imperative form of 開く (hiraku, to open)) + 胡麻 (goma, sesame), calque of French sésame, ouvre-toi in Antoine Galland's version of Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves in One Thousand and One Nights, possibly based on an oral Arabic source.
