Sino-Korean word from 辯護士 (lawyer), an orthographic borrowing from Japanese 弁護士(べんごし) (bengoshi). Cognate with Korean 변호사 (byeonhosa), Hakka 辯護士辩护士 (phien-fu-sṳ), and Min Nan 辯護士辩护士 (piān-hō͘-sū, piǎn-hō͘-sǐr).
