Usage notes

/tɪd/ and /dɪd/ are variants of the same suffix. /tɪd/ (phonetically [tʰɪd]) is always spelt -tid whereas /dɪd/ is represented by -tid after an unvoiced fricative (phonetically [tɪd]) and by -did after other voiced sounds (phonetically [dɪd]).
