Etymology

From Ottoman Turkish چاغلامق‎ (çağlamak), from چاغل‎ (çağıl, “the sound of running water”). Of Turkic origin. Not related to çağ (a different Turkic or Mongolian word) or çağla (“fruit, almond”) (from Persian).

to make a sound of running water: to babble, to murmur, to gurgle
