Tosk variant of amë.[1] From Proto-Albanian *am(m)ā, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂em(m)-h₂ (compare Ancient Greek ἀμμά (ammá), Latin amma, Old High German amma). Cf. also archaic Romanian îmă.
