Etymology

From Ottoman Turkish اوتوری‎ (ötüri), equivalent to the obsolete verb öt- (“to pass”) + -eri (“towards”). Ultimately from Proto-Turkic *öt- (“to pass by”). Cognate with Old Turkic [script needed] (ötrü, “due to”), etc.
