Etymology
Literally, "to drink over the thirst", in other words to drink more than is required by thirst.
Verb
- To drink more (usually alcohol) than is appropriate. Usually accompanied by einen or some measure such as ein paar Gläser.
- Ich habe mich krank gemeldet, weil ich gestern Abend einen über den Durst getrunken habe.
- I called in sick because I had a bit too much to drink last night.
