Etymology

From δαιδάλλω (daidállō, work, craft), from Proto-Indo-European *delh₁- (to hew, to split, verbal root). However, according to Beekes, both words are from Pre-Greek.

In Homer, only found substantivized, mostly in the neuter plural δαίδαλα (daídala, ornaments).
