Borrowed from Latin Moscovia, which is in turn from Old East Slavic Московь (Moskovĭ) or Москъвь (Moskŭvĭ), 1st mentioned in the 12th century, a form of Москꙑ (Mosky). It is a doublet of Москва́ (Moskvá).
