Etymology

Borrowed from Ottoman Turkish لاجه (colorful) (whence modern Turkish alaca). Akin to Macedonian ала (ala, serpent, dragon), Serbo-Croatian а̏ла (spotted; dragon) (borrowed from Ottoman Turkish).
