Etymology
From Proto-Abkhaz-Abaza *ǯ̍ə́-ḳā (“with a not quite clear second component”). Cognate with Abaza джькӏа (ǯ’ḳā). Nikolayev / Starostin further derive from Proto-Northwest Caucasian *ǯ̍ǝ (“salt”).
