From Proto-Permic *baŋ, borrowed from Bulgar, from Proto-Turkic *beŋ (“birthmark, mole”), whence also Turkish ben (“mole”) and beniz (“face”).
Cognate with Komi-Permyak бам (bam) and Komi-Zyrian бан (ban).
