Borrowing from Old Church Slavonic дъщи (dŭšti), from Proto-Slavic *dъťi, from Proto-Indo-European *dʰugh₂tḗr. The modern Russian term дочь (dočʹ) is derived from the same source. Cf. Bulgarian дъщеря́ (dǎšterjá).
