Etymology
Akin to Romanian zestre (“dowry”), possibly from Vulgar Latin dexterae pl (“pledging”). According to St. Mladenov, the Bulgarian and Romanian terms may alternatively stem from Proto-Slavic *zęt- (“kinship”) + *-tra.
