Etymology 1

From Proto-Slavic *kǫčiti, *kučiti. Cognate with Polish dokuczyć pf (to tease, to annoy, to trouble) and possibly Russian кучиться (kučitʹsja, to clump, to stack).

  1. (transitive, obsolete) to squeeze, to compress
  2. (transitive, dialectal) to deteriorate, to harm, to inflict damage (in physical or emotional sense)
