Inherited from Old East Slavic льгота (lĭgota), from the root of лёгкий (ljóxkij, easy) + -ота (-ota). Cognate with Ukrainian вільго́та (vilʹhóta) and Belarusian ільго́та (ilʹhóta); compare also Polish ulga.
