- to cut, shear, haircut
- (reflexive) to tonsure, to became a monk
- from the Homily against the Bogumils, 1987-1991:
- и не по законоу остризаѭще сѧ отъходѧтъ въ иѥроусалимъ, инии же въ римъ и въ прочѧѩ градꙑ, и тако помѧтъше сѧ възвращаѭтъ сѧ въ домꙑ своѩ
