From *čaqïrïm (“the distance at which a shout as a voice signal can be heard”), from Proto-Turkic *čaqïr- (“to call, hail”).
Cognate with Kazakh шақырым (şaqırım), Kyrgyz чакырым (çakırım), Southern Altai чакырым (čakïrïm), Uzbek chaqirim, Uyghur چاقىرىم (chaqirim, “verst”).
