свидетел
Bulgarian
Etymology
Borrowed from Russian свидетель (svidetelʹ), formally an agent noun of the obsolete сведя (svedja, “to witness, to know”) + -тел (-tel) (in Russian, OCS -ѣ- sometimes transforms into -и-). Replaced the native Bulgarian сведък (svedǎk).
