Etymology

Proto-Turkic *tạnu- (to know, get to know)[1].

Cognate with Kazakh тану (tanw), Kumyk танымакъ (tanımaq), Kyrgyz тааны- (taanı-), Southern Altai таны- (tanï-), Uzbek tanimoq, East Kewa таны-, Tuvan таны- (tanı-), Turkish tanımak (know somebody, recognize).

    If the person I wrote (about) recognizes himself/herself, I think s/he will be ashamed.
