From Proto-Turkic *tïd- (“to hinder, obstruct”)[1].
Cognate with Kazakh тыю (tıyw, “to forbid, hold back”), Kyrgyz тый- (tıy-), Karachay-Balkar тыяргъа (tıyarğa, “hold back, restrain”), Uzbek tiymoq (“to control, hold back”).
