From *törä (“aristocrat; bureaucrat; state official”), perhaps related to Old Uyghur [script needed] (törä, “law; custom”), and/or to Proto-Turkic *tör (“seat of honor”).
Cognate with Tatar түрә (türä, “state official”), Kazakh төре (töre, “a descendant of Genghis Khan; aristocrat; high-ranking state official”), Kyrgyz төрө (törö, “lord, mister; bureaucrat”), Uzbek toʻra (“state official; aristocrat”), Shor төре (“city mayor, head of district”), etc.
