Etymology

From Common Kypchak *oyunčuq / *oyïnčïq "toy", a suffixed derivative of *oyun "game; amusement", from Proto-Turkic *oj- (to play).

Immediately cognate with Tatar уенчык (uyençıq), Kazakh ойыншық (oyınşıq), Kyrgyz оюнчук (oyunçuk), Southern Altai ойынчык (oyïnčïk, toy).

Also compare with Uzbek oʻyinchoq, Turkish oyuncak, Turkmen oýunjak (toy) - these terms, however, were derived using a different suffix.
