Morphologically from хиля́да (hiljáda, one thousand) + -ле́тие (-létie, years). Compare second component to Russian лет (let), genitive plural of год (god) or ле́то (léto, year). (Used suppletively with год (god), the original meaning of ле́то (léto) being “summer”.)
