- In Eastern and Classical varieties of Persian, with some exceptions, vowels appearing before glottal consonants are realized as 'Majhul' vowels. The character 'у' is shifted from /u/ to /ɵ/ due to the presence of a glottal stop 'ъ'. Many speakers in Tajikistan may also shift it to /ʊ/.
