From *salqïn (“cool”), probably borrowed from Middle Mongol[1], from Proto-Mongolic *salkïn (“wind”)[2], compare Mongolian салхи (salxi, “wind”).

Cognate with Kazakh салқын (salqyn, “cool”), Kyrgyz салкын (salkın, “cool”), Uzbek salqin (“cool”), Turkish salkın (“cool”).
