From Old Ossetic *ardun-, from Proto-Iranian *dráwnam (bow), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *dráwnam (wooden object), from Proto-Indo-European *dréw-no-m, from *dóru (wood). Cognate with Persian درونه (darune, bow), Sanskrit द्रोण (droṇa), Baluchi درین (drīn).
