Perhaps adapted from Persian حالا (hâlâ, now), from Arabic حَالًا (ḥālan, now).

Cognate with Kazakh әлі (älı, still, yet), Kyrgyz али (ali, still, as yet; just now), Kumyk гьали (hali, now; still, yet), Uzbek hali (still, yet), Uyghur ھېلى (hëli, still, yet, recently).

Particle

әле (äle) (placed after verb)

  1. after optative/imperative verb forms: a modal particle connoting a wish or kind request; please
  2. after non-past indicative verb forms: indicates that the action has not completed and will continue in the near future
    Ултырам әле.
    Ultıram äle.
    I will sit a little bit more.
  3. after past indicative verb forms or the particle һуң connotes surprise or regret
  4. after present indicative verb forms or the particle бит connotes surprise, doubt or hesitation
