Old Armenian
Etymology
From Middle Median *axšēn, from Proto-Iranian *xšaHiθniH (whence Ossetian ӕхсин (æxsin, “lady, mistress”)), from *xšáHyati (“to rule”) Alternatively from the homonym *xšayθniH (“shining, magnificent, splendid”), from *xšáytah (“shining”), whence also Old Armenian աշխէտ (ašxēt), Ossetian ӕхсид (æxsid, “dawn”).
