Etymology

From the Middle Iranian cognate of Old Persian *Arta-bānu (the glory of Arta). The Iranian name has been transliterated into Ancient Greek as Ἀρταβάνης (Artabánēs), Ἀρτάβανος (Artábanos), into Latin as Artabanus. Akin to Persian اردوان (ardavân).
