The original spelling is աւգն (awgn), from Parthian *abi-gūna-, ultimately with the preverb *Habí- from the root *gaw- (“to increase”), whence Avestan 𐬔𐬏𐬥𐬀𐬊𐬙𐬌‎ (gūnaoti, “to increase”). Related to օգուտ (ōgut).

   յօգն գալ, հասանել ― yōgn gal, hasanel ― to help, aid or succour a person

   յօգն կոչել ― yōgn kočʿel ― to call for help

Always used in singular prepositional accusative form յօգն (yōgn).
